How to Start — Simple 4-Step Pathway

1) Do your research (we’re here to help).

Skim our starter tips, ask questions, get sized up properly.

2) Find a kart (that’s on us too).

We’ll match brand/chassis to your class, size and budget—new or inspected pre-owned—and set a safe baseline.

3) Join Townsville Kart Club & get a KA Licence.

Become part of the club and get accredited to practice and race. We’ll talk you through it.

4) Book coaching — get on the right track, first time.

Lock in good habits early with trackside coaching and a simple Action Sheet to guide practice.

What you’ll need

Kart suited to your class.

We’ll help confirm fit. Don’t have one yet? We can advise options and limited lease pathways—just ask.


Safety gear:

Full-face karting helmet, CIK/FIA suit, gloves, boots.

Rib protector strongly recommended.


Fuel & basics:

98 pump fuel (plus oil if 2-stroke), basic tools, chain lube, rags.


Hydration & snacks

For the driver (and parent!).


Parent/guardian

Present for under-18s.

FAQs

How old can my child start? Under Karting Australia guidelines, children can start practising at 6 and race from 7 (Cadet categories).


Do we need our own kart first? Yes in most cases. There may be lease options depending on availability — we’ll help you find something that suits your needs and budget.


Is karting safe? With proper gear, coaching and track rules, risk is managed and learning is structured.


What does a first race cost? Have a chat with us. There are multiple pathways and options for most budgets, and we’ll tailor suggestions to your situation.


What if it rains? We teach wet-weather fundamentals, adjust setups and ensure safety-first decision-making.
